Dear Band Parents and Students,
I wanted to communicate several items of importance with dates and time frames with the Admiral Band. This Saturday the Admiral Band will be participating in the Gulfport Mardi Gras day parade. All students are to report at 1:00 pm to 19th street off of Hwy 49. We will have a rehearsal of the music and marching that we have been working on in our classes at that time. The parade kicks off at 2:00 pm. We should be finished by 4:00 that afternoon. This is a community event that the band would like to be a part of this year. The students will need to wear their orange member shirt, blue jean pants (no sags please) and black socks and your black marching shoes.
The final details with the up coming spring trip to Orlando is now upon us. All final payments will come due on March 5th. If you have any outstanding balances on your trip account, please send the remaining amount to the band office as soon as possible. The students going on the spring trip will depart on the evening of April 3rd and return on April 7th. We will send to you a detailed itinerary of time frames and places at the first part of March.
The Concert Band and Symphonic Band will be performing in concert competition on Thursday, March 19th for the South Mississippi Band Festival at Gulfport High School’s Auditorium. The Concert Band performs at 8:00 am and the Symphonic Band performs at 8:30 am. All students will be wearing their concert dress attire for the performances (guys tuxedoes and girls dresses). The Symphonic Band will travel to Pearl High School in Pearl, Mississippi on Friday, April 3rd to compete in the state high school band contest. The band will perform at 4:30 pm at Pearl High Auditorium. On April 9th the band will have our Spring Concert at Gulfport High School’s auditorium. The concert will begin at 6:30 pm and should last about an hour. On May 5th we will have our band banquet and awards presentation at Bayou View Baptist Church. The banquet will start at 7:30 am and should be over at 9:15 am. Thank you for your support of our students and the Admiral Band.
