     I would like to welcome you all to a new school year!  This year our class will focus on preparing you for preparation for further education and careers in the Health Science career cluster.  You will learn technical skills, competency-based applied learning that contributes to the academic knowledge, higher order reasoning and problem solving skills.  You will learn proper work attitudes, general employability skills, technical skills, and occupation-specific skills, and knowledge of all aspects of the Health Science career cluster. 

     The purpose of this program is to give students an opportunity to apply knowledge and skills related to the area of Health Science career cluster.  The content includes, but is not limited to practical generic skills in health occupations.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITES ARE:

1. BE PREPARED FOR CLASS EVERY DAY BY HAVING ALL OF YOUR NEEDED SUPPLIES.

2. Be in your assigned seat when the bell rings.

3. Actively participate in all class activities.

4. Raise your hand for permission to speak or leave your seat.

5. Respect yourself, your classmates, and your teacher at all times.

6. Know your assignments and turn them in on time.

7. Obtain all make-up work as soon as possible and turn it in by assigned day.

8. DO NOT have any electronic equipment out in class unless instructed to by teacher.  Phones will be placed in storage bin when you enter class.

9. DO NOT eat in class.

10.  Stay seated at the end of class until the bell rings.

11. Be a member of HOSA(Health Occupational Students of America) club.

12. DO NOT touch the clinical beds, manikins, or supplies unless instructed to.


ASSIGNMENTS:

1.  Must be turned in at assigned time.

2.  Must be labeled at the top with your name, date, class period, and assignment title.  

3. Late work will be counted off daily and must be given directly to the teacher when turned in.


ABSENCES:

It is your responsibility to get all work missed from your absences, which will be accessible to you in a designated location. 

  • Classwork - due per teacher's discretion
  • Tests and Vocab Quizzes - must be done on the day you return to school.
  • All missed assignments will be given a zero until until they are made up.

GRADES:

Will be based on a point system.  All tests will be a minimum of 50 points and be as much as 200 points.  Vocabulary  quizzes will be 20 to 50 points.  Class assignments will be given 10 to 50 points.  Labs will be given 25 to 50 points.  Projects will be up to 200 points.

HALL/RESTROOM PASSES:

Only one person at a time may leave the classroom.  You will be given 3 passes per semester and must use this to be able to leave the classroom.  You MUST use your planner as a hall pass.  NO PLANNER=NO HALL PASS!  Phones do not go out the classroom with you.

I would like to welcome you all to a new school year!  This year our class will focus on learning an in depth knowledge of the health care system and associated occupations.  Emphasis will be placed on communication and interpersonal skills, use of technology, ethics, and the development of critical thinking and problem solving skills.  The goal is to prepare you further for the Health Science 3 class that will have you working in a clinical setting.

 

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES ARE:

We would like to welcome you all to a new school year!  This year our class will focus on preparing you to provide and assist with all aspects of activities of daily living for the adult patient in both hospital and nursing home settings.  This includes skills practice in the classroom and clinical experience.  Emphasis is also placed on the development of communication, problem solving, and critical thinking.  You will also be prepared to take the Florida, State Certified Nursing Assistant exam for industry certification in the Spring of 2016.

 

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES ARE:

1.            Be prepared for class EVERY DAY by having all of your needed supplies.

3.            Actively participate in all class activities.

4.            Raise your hand for permission to speak or leave your seat.

5.            Respect yourself, your classmates, and your teacher at all times.

7.            Obtain all make-up work as soon as possible and turn it in by assigned day.  This is your responsibility to obtain missed work when you return to class.  Failure to do this will result in a "0."

8.            Do NOT have any electronic equipment in class unless instructed to by teacher.  Cell phones must be placed in holder when you enter the classroom.

9.          Stay seated at the end of class until the bell rings.

10.          Be a member of HOSA (Health Occupational Students of America) club.  You will not receive a HOSA cord or recognition at graduation if you are not a HOSA member and a member of the Health Science 3 classes.

11.          Do not touch the clinical beds, manikins, or supplies unless given an assignment that requires it.

12.  Please refrain from eating during class time.  However, you may eat between the 2 classes.  Storage room microwave and refrigerator is off limits.

 

ASSIGNMENTS:

1.            Must be turned in at assigned time.

2.            Must be labeled at the top with your name, date, class period, and assignment title on the right, top corner. 

3.            Late work will be counted off at least daily and must be given directly to the teacher when turned in.

 

ABSENCES: 

It is your responsibility to get all work missed from your absences.  The assignments will be available in a designated location. 

  • Classwork - due per teacher's discretion.
  • Tests and Vocab Quizzes - must be done on the day you return to school.
  • Clinical Skills Testing - must be made up after school at your teacher's discretion.  Failure to complete testing will result in not being able to participate in clinical activities.
  • All missed assignments will be given a zero until they are made up.
  • Clinical days are MANDATORY and 40 clinical hours are required inorder to be recommended for the CNA exam.

 

GRADES:

Will be based on a point system.  All tests will be a minimum of 50 points and may be as much as 200 points.  All written tests will be at the end of each unit, which is usually once per week.  Practical performance tests will be worth 100 points  and will be done after the skills are taught and the student has had time to practice.  Clinical activities are worth 100 points and attendance is mandatory.  Students are required to complete 40 clinical hours before taking their CNA exam.   Vocabulary Quizzes will be given 30 to 50 points.  Class assignments will be given at the beginning of each unit. They are worth 40 to 100 points, dependingon the length.The due dated for the assignment will be given to the student at the beginning of each unit.  Projects will be up to 200 points.  The student will be given the expectations and due dates for the projects when they are assigned.  

CLINICAL PARTICIPATION:

Is a vital part of our class.  You will receive a 0 fro unexcused absences on clinical days.   If you do not have the required hours, you cannot be recommended to take the CNA exam.  You will receive a 0 for unexcused absences on clinical days.  If you have an excused absence, you will be required to do an assigned project to make up for the missed day.  If you are not wearing proper attire or do not have a proper clinical appearance (no artificial nails, wearing proper shoes, hair pulled back off of neck), you will not be allowed to go to the clinical facility and this will be considered an unexcused absence.  NO EXCEPTIONS!  You are required to have 20 clinical hours in a nursing home and 20 in other clinical facilities in order to take the CNA exam.  If you are not at clinicals, you cannot make up the hours on your own.  

REMIND:

Remind is a website we use to send reminders to students of upcoming important dates.  We use remind for all tests, quizzes, due dates, and clinical reminders.  The following is how to register for these texts:

For Wynn-Dobbs - On your cell phone, dial 904-637-4155.  CNA Health Science 3, type the message dobbshs3 and send the text.  For Wolter - type the message @hltsci3 and send the text.  Yo should get a confirmation text after you sign up.  

SUPPLIES:

Required supplies that the students must have include: 

3 ring binder(at least 1") with dividers (labels should be: 1. Prometric Info. 2.  Classwork, 3.  Skills Notecards 4.  Vocab  5.  HOSA Info. 6.  Contract and Syllabus)

- 1-2 clear page protectors (for skills notecards) - Mrs Wynn-Dobbs will give these to you.

- Notebook paper

- Pencils and blue or black ink ens

- Index Cards - 1 pack - any size is fine as long as you can read your writing on them easily

- Mandatory HOSA membership - Information coming 

- Wrist watch with second hand (no phones or difital watches allowed)

- Clean athletic shoes

- Black Scrubs - as instructed to purchase
