AP Exam

Students enrolled in AP courses are REQUIRED to take the AP exam.

The College Board charge for each AP exam is approximately $85. This fee is due 1st semester.

The AP Biology exam is May 11,2009

Requirements for AP Courses

1. The student is required to master on his/her own much of the basic information necessary before he/she may begin to explore the concepts that will be discussed in class. Class time is not used to drill basic information. The student must assume greater responsibility for his/her own learning.

2. The student is required to make maximum use of study time; he/she must be self-disciplined, be able to set priorities and be able to handle greater pressures to master large amounts of difficult materials. A minimum of ONE HOUR of study per night is absolutely necessary for class preparation.

3. The student is required to be more completely prepared to contribute to class discussions, not simply to take notes on the teacher's understanding of the material.

Course Description

AP Biology provides the basic biological concepts reviewed in a framework of laboratory and textual content.  The concepts and lab experiences are aimed at developing an understanding of biological principles in greater depth.  Applicable lab experience is provided to  make factual material more meaningful and more relevant.  This course will be taken by students who wish to broaden their academic knowledge and skills or by those students who plan to enter a field of study in which knowledge of advanced biological concepts is needed.  Students will be able to read, write about and discuss biological concepts with ease.  As well as obtaining a thorough understanding of the biological world in which they live, is is hoped that the student will develop attitudes and interest in applying what they learn to their everyday lives.
