Ms. Warren's Reading Objectives

Reading classes emphasize comprehension skills, vocabulary development, developing skills to help locate, use and apply information for personal and academic development, and a basic understanding of multiculturalism. 

In class, students will:

  • Problem solve “decode” unknown words when reading

  •   Read grade-level text with fluency, accuracy, and  expression

  •   Develop vocabulary using roots and affixes, context clues, and     dictionary

  •   Use pre-reading strategies (prior knowledge, prediction, etc.)

  •   Use during reading strategies (self question, inference, etc.)

  •   Use post reading strategies (reflection, summarizing, etc.)

  •   Make connections between text to text, text to self, and text to world

  •   Identify and explain figurative language (simile, metaphor, etc,)

  •   Use details to state main idea and supporting details, sequence of events, cause and effect, and author’s point of view

  •   Follow multi-step directions
