Mrs. Wallace – 9th Grade, Math Foundations II – Room A16

“NO EXCUSES”

Course Description:  This class contains both pre-algebra and pre-geometry.  It is designed in order to adequately prepare you for Algebra I.  The state-mandated end-of-course test counts as 15% of your second semester grade.

The Rule:  Respect yourself and other people.  No put-downs of other people for any reason will be tolerated.  It is unfair to erase somebody’s identity.  We all have the right to be treated with respect.

Discipline:  Depending on the situation, it could mean a short meeting between just you and me, a phone call home, meetings with the Assistant Principal, counselor, your parents/guardians...or anything else that will help get you back on track.

Standard Procedure:  I expect you to be seated and ready to learn when the bell rings.  Likewise, you should expect me to be ready to teach.

Attendance:  My job is to make this class enjoyable and informative.  I will never intentionally embarrass you.  Your job is to come to class.  Be there or be square.

Tardy:  Don’t you hate waiting for people?  I do.  Don’t be rude.  Be on time.

Study Materials:  Imagine how you would feel if you made an appointment to have your car fixed and when you took it to the shop, the mechanic said, “ Oh, gee.  I forgot to bring my tools today.  Sorry.”  Not cool.  Bring your learning tools to class.

Grading:

  1. This is how your grade is calculated:
    • Tests=50%
    • Quizzes=25%
    • Daily Work=25%
  2. Tests are given every Friday and will be cumulative.
  3. If you score below a 70 on a test, you may re-take the test to improve your score up to a grade of 70.
  4. Quizzes are given almost daily to assess your understanding of each day’s lesson.
  5. When you return to class after any absence, it is your responsibility to get your make-up work out of the make-up box, which will be on the front table.  You will have 3 days to complete the work.  If you need more time, talk to me.

What if I need help?  I will do anything I can to help you succeed in this class.  I am here early before school, often skip my lunch, and will stay late after school (if given a day’s notice).  I offer about a million chances to make up assignments, to get extra credit and to pull up your grades.  In the end, there are no excuses for failure—you can pass this math class, you can do math, and maybe by the end of the year you might even LIKE Math!
