Reading: During the first six weeks, we will be working toward mastery of the following skills: Sequence, Author's Purpose, and Main Idea. The students really enjoyed the first story, "Because of Winn Dixie". We have completed the beginning of the year testing and STAR testing and divided students into reading groups. In addition to leveled, small group instruction, Reading takes PRACTICE. Please help your child set aside at least twenty minutes each evening to read their AR book.
Language: Students have been very busy writing during the first week of school. We will continue to study the four types of sentences as well as subjects and predicates. Hopefully, your child will sing some "Grammar Jingles" for you.
Spelling: Spelling lists have been uploaded to the class website! Don't forget, Spelling tests will be every Friday.
