Welcome to a new school year and a new beginning in your academic career! As we start this school year we begin a journey of exploring new experiences in literature and writing. You will develop new skills and strengthen old ones. Throughout the year, I will strive to expand your understanding of successful communication, both oral and written. I am looking forward to working with each of you in this class! Welcome to the Freshman Academy!
My Expectations
The expectations for this class are for you to:
1. Be respectful – respect one another and yourself!
2. Be on time – in class and seated when the tardy bell rings.
3. Be prepared – have all materials for class with you.
4. Bring an attitude open for learning.
Your behavior should be in line with the following principles at all times:
Honesty, Courtesy, Respect, and Responsibility!!
The consequences for continued interruptions will be as follows:
1st Offense: You will receive one warning.
2nd Offense: I will contact a parent over the phone
3rd Offense: You will receive a written disciplinary referral.
Bell Work
The first 5 – 10 minutes of each class will be spent doing bell work, which is a short language arts activity that may be focused on grammar or writing. Upon entering the classroom, students should begin working on bell work and remain silent until all students have completed the activity.
Class Materials
1. Textbook (which will be provided)
2. One 3-ring binder filled with loose leaf paper
3. #2 Pencils / BLUE or BLACK ink pens
4. Highlighter
Grading Scale
A variety of techniques are used to determine your grade. Your grade is a percentage of the total points earned out of total points offered. The grading scale is as follows:
93 – 100 = A
85 – 92 = B
75 – 84 = C
70 – 74 = D
Below 70 = F
Classroom Management
Before you come to class:
1. Take care of drinking fountain needs and restroom stops.
2. Throw away all food and drinks in an outside garbage can. NO FOOD OR DRINKS are allowed in Room A02. This includes CHEWING GUM!
3. Talk to your friends. (Passing notes will not be tolerated)
Before the tardy bell rings:
1. Leave your backpack and unnecessary materials in the back of the classroom.
2. Come into class quietly, take your seat, and prepare to learn.
3. Make sure you have your materials ready.
After the tardy bell rings:
1. Get started on the day's bell work.
2. Remain seated during class unless otherwise instructed.
3. The bell does NOT dismiss you; the teacher does. You may begin packing your things and exit the room when you have been instructed to do so.
Dress Code
The MCHS Dress Regulations will be enforced in this classroom at ALL times. Failure to meet the standards listed in the dress code will result in a discipline referral.

I will get back with you as soon as possible over the phone. Students may arrange a time to speak with me also at any time!
