Classroom Procedures

I.  Agendas

Every student is required to have a school agenda.  We will use the agendas to record homework assignments, important messages, parent/teacher communication, and any misbehaviors that occur at school.  If your child does not have any problem behaviors, then he/she will have a sticker in their agenda for that day.  If there are misbehaviors, then I will write down exactly what the student did.  Parents are required to initial the agenda every night.  Failure to do so will result in a strip being pulled to a warning.  Students will be rewarded for getting 20 stickers in a row by choosing things out of the treasure chest, receiving homework passes, treats, etc.

II.  Graded Papers

On Mondays, all of your child’s work that has been graded will be sent home in the BEAR Binder.  Attached to the papers will be a sheet for the parents to sign and date along with a space for any comments or concerns that you may have.  You may keep the papers, but you must return the signed sheet.  Graded papers must have a parent or guardian’s signature each week and must be returned to school on Tuesday.  Any papers not signed will be sent back home for an appropriate signature.  Failure to get your folder signed will result in points deducted from your child’s conduct grade and detention time if it occurs on a regular basis.

III.  Homework

Students will have homework on a daily basis, except on Fridays.  All material that your child will need in order to successfully complete his or her homework assignments for that night will be in their BEAR binder.  Upon completion, ALL homework should be placed back in the BEAR binder and returned to school the next day.  This aids in helping to keep your child organized and establishing a routine for turning in and keeping up with their homework each day.  All homework should be placed in the designated area in our classroom each morning upon arrival to school.  *IMPORTANT NOTE-Failure to turn in homework will result in detention time and loss of conduct points.  During this time, your child will be required to complete the work he or she did not complete and/or turn in on time.

IV. Newsletter

At the beginning of each week, your child will receive a newsletter on colored Xerox paper for easy identification.  Included on this sheet will be any and all homework assignments for the entire week, spelling words, and other important information about school events and happenings.  It will be placed in a sheet protector that is at the front of your child’s BEAR binder.  This sheet should remain in your child’s BEAR binder at all times.

V.  Progress Reports

Progress reports will be distributed toward the middle of each nine weeks.  Each progress report will show your child’s current average as of that date and any subjects that need improvement will be highlighted.  All progress reports require a parent’s signature and will need to be returned to school in a timely manner.  Again, it is your child’s responsibility to see that his or her progress report is signed and returned to school on time.

VI. Tests

SPELLING-Students will be given two opportunities each week to earn 93 points on their Spelling test. If your child earns a 93 or higher on the Thursday test, then he/she will not have to take the Friday test. READING vocabulary/comprehension tests will be given on Thursday.  MATH, SCIENCE, ENGLISH, and SOCIAL STUDIES-Review sheets will be given out at the completion of each unit in all of these subjects.  Students should use these sheets as a guide to study by at home and return them to school on the designated test date. Students will receive FIVE EXTRA POINTS added to their test if they return their review sheet on the test date. I do this to encourage each student to keep up with his/her review sheet.

VII.  Snacks

Each day, we will have snack in our classroom.  Please send a snack with your child everyday.  Extra snacks would be greatly appreciated for students who forget to bring snacks.
