West students will participate in hands on activities involving the elements of art and principles of design. They will also explore descriptive language as a tool for critiquing and discussing artwork. Fifth grade students will begin journal sketchbooks.
Please send your empty styrofoam egg cartons to school. We use these to store paint when we are paintings.
Please send your empty paper towel rolls to school. We will use them for various projects during the school year.
This week we will begin studying periods of art history beginning with prehistoric art. West students will be working on cave art projects ranging from tracing and cutting out handprints (K), to painting animals on natural materials (5). Some grade levles will draw animals on textured paper and others will create animal print designs. Second graders will create handmade brushes and all students will participate in a critique of all the projects.
