Daily Homework
Second graders are expected to read each night for a minimum of 15 minutes each night. Please help your child by reading to them or listening to them read every day. If you need some ideas for helping get your child past a difficult word, please look at the reading strategies section of this webpage. The children are familiar with these strategies so just giving them the prompt would be a great help!
In addition to reading, second graders receive a spelling and a math log each week. There is a part of each log to complete each day, Monday through Thursday. Both of these items are important practice for the school day and many times will prepare children for the Benchmark tests given each quarter. In January 2010, a weekly practice passage was added to the weekly homework. These passages allow students to have added practice using their reading and test taking strategies.
