Abstract Three

CITATION:Okojie- Boulder, Tinukwa, Okojie, Mabel, Olinzock, Anthony.  (2006). The Pedagogy of Technology Integration.  Journal of Technology Studies, 32(2), 66-71.

SUMMARY:  This article was about integrating technology and why it is important from a pedagogy standpoint.  Often teacher fail to see that there is a direct tie between the way that they look at technology and the way their students perceive the information.  Technology should be used by teachers as a device to enhance their learning process, but often teachers simply look at it as something else they do not have time for.   They do not connect their instructional objectives with the use of technology.  Teachers need to understand that technology can be used as a way of motivating students and incorporating different learning styles.  Technology can be used as a way of involving exploratory learning and a variety of teaching methods as a way to hook children into their learning.  By using this type of technology you step away from certain learning such as memorization.  Many teachers have admitted that they do not know how to integrate technology from their own teaching practices, but teachers need to understand and consider technology as a learning component.  When we look at teaching and learning it has to be looked at as an applied process rather than a single activity.  In a study 70% of teachers fail to relate with how technology facilitates learning and achieve life long success.    Teachers need to understand that technology not only helps teachers to teach, but students to learn.

PERSONAL REACTION: I chose this article because many aspects of our job relate with the pedagogy of technology so I thought that it would be interesting to see what research states about them.  For the most part it was a repeat of some of the articles that I have read before.  It seems as though many of the researchers hit on the same problems of technology; the fact that it is too expensive and the lack of proper training.  The article was interesting to read and was full of useful information.  I liked the fact that it discussed where teachers go wrong when they are incorporating technology.  I know that I make the mistake of looking at technology integration as a one time assignment rather than a continuous objective.  This article went through different areas of the technology pedagogy.  I was hoping that after reading this article I would be able to relate with certain areas in the technology pedagogy.  I think that all teachers should at least browse through this article so that they could recognize where they are missing the boat when it comes to incorporating technology into their own classrooms.  It is easy to see where we are missing the mark after reading some of these articles, but the real problem is figuring out how to fix it!
