Interdependent Art Studio

Syllabus Interdependent Art Studio: Exploration and Projects Quarters 1, 2, 4, & 3; Modules A, B, C, D&E Credit: .25 or .50 Art Studio This Studio Art Course has two tracks. The first track, Exploration, is available to students who are new to art, rediscovering art, or enjoy art but have no interest in making it a career. In Art Studio Exploration the students will have the opportunity to discover and explore their own artistic interest. Students will not be told what art materials to use or what to express. Neither will they be able to ask for such specific direction. Only under their own self-direction will they plan and execute works of art. It will be the responsibility of the student to keep busy at their works and projects, also to keep the resident Artist informed of their direction and progress on a daily basis. The Resident Artist will be available as a coach, advisor, and resource. The second track, Project, is for the more advanced mature art student or student working toward AP credit. In Art Studio Project, in consultation with the Resident Artist, the student will design and commit to an art project. The Student will decide on their desired end result, a process to achieve it and a schedule for achieving it. If the student plans to make their art project an AP project, as well, the student must plan for the project to take at least three semesters. Essential Skills Focused On – The ability to: • Work Independently and Work Creatively: Working without directive supervision, and takes chances by making choices. • Persist in Achieving Quality: Identifying quality work and being willing to redo or rework and take the time to achieve it. • Solve Problems and Communicate Effectively: Identifying aesthetic, design, and communicative problems and working to solve them. Object of Art Studio The object of Art Studio is for each of us, in an ambience of interdependence, to persistently pursue the process of originating works of art that are authentic expressions of who we are. Evaluation Students will evaluate themselves daily. They will report a score between 1 and 10. 10 being the full realization of the above stated objective. The Resident Artist will subjectively evaluate using the guidelines outlined below. Grading Criteria: Craftsmanship: Did you take your time? Did you create with care and consideration? Were you patient? Were you persistent? Did you include all the parts needed to make your work complete? Does your work look and feel finished? Class Participation: Were you focused on your work? Did you observe and consider the works of the other students? Did you participate in class discussions, clean up, and problem solving? Were you on time for class? Were you respectful to the other students and teacher? Were you aware of your behavior's effect on others? Did you address conflicts with classmates and teacher and did you pursue a resolution and achieve mutually satisfying agreements? Content: Does your work have integrity and authenticity? Do you use your work to reveal and express yourself or do you use it to hide and camouflage yourself? Did the work accomplish your intent or meet your expectations? Creativity: Did you take risks? Were you able to turn mistakes into assets and opportunities? Did you use your own ideas? Did you try something you had never tried before? Did you create something new and unique? Coachability: Did you hear the Teacher's advice and observations, or criticism, with an open mind? Did you ask questions? Did you consider advice and respect suggestions even when they didn't make sense to you? Were you assertive in seeking advice and counsel with your teacher and/or with other sources of information or authority? Students, Be Warned: If I feel that you are not genuine or authentic, or you are possibly delusional, in your self-evaluations I hold it my right and responsibility to override your score. I will inform you on a daily basis of my disagreement with your scoring.
