English III Dobson 2007-08
My name is Tracy Dobson and I teach American literature.
One of the most interesting things about teaching English is that it is not one single subject, but a conglomeration of at least five different subjects. The English teacher is expected to teach reading, writing, speaking, listening, and thinking skills through literature, grammar, vocabulary, and technology. These skills, in order to have meaning, cannot be taught independently of one another. Although some days will be devoted largely to one topic, we will often mix several subjects and skills in a class period.

My goal for this year is to meet your child at his or her ability level and move him further to his goal of graduation and later entry into our global society by increasing his communication skill level, by strengthening his critical thinking ability, and by broadening his worldview.
With this goal in mind it is important that students regularly attend class
, be on time to class, and complete all assignments.

I love teaching American literature, and I expect this to be a great year.
We will have a research paper this fall as well as the TCAP writing assessment in January. Each quarter there will be one novel read outside of class. I will need each parents' help in making sure your student is keeping up with his work. If you need to talk to me for any reason, please don’t hesitate. Together we can make this a fun, exciting, and amazing
instructional year for your teen.

Thanks for your support,

T. Dobson
