  1. Research different stocks, bonds, etc.  and keep portfolio.

    1. Examine types of coverage for automobile, property, life, health, and income security.

 

Unit 6

(Chapters 25-27)

  1. Explore insurance quotes on various items

 

  1. Explore tax functions as related to personal finance and personal payroll.
    1. Compute sales tax and payroll tax
    2. Explore potential tax deductions and credits
    3. Identify types of income taxes.

Unit 2

(Chapters 6-7)

  1. Research online tax credits and share findings with class
  2. Students will complete tax forms

Grading Policy

Grades will come from unit tests, classroom projects, bell ringers, and a portfolio.  Please note that the portfolio will count as two test grades.

The following items are due by March 3rd.  There will absolutely no extensions on the deadline.  Only the highest quality work will be accepted.  The items in the portfolio are to be worked on at school during spare time in class.  The only scheduled time will be for the first two topics to get you started.  It is your responsibility to use your time wisely.

 

  1. Better Business Bureau (BBB):

 

    1. Logon to BBB
    2. Choose any for profit business that you want and print out the findings.
    3. Choose any not for profit business that you want and print out the findings.
    4. List the 5 steps of filing a complaint.
    5. Students will read an article on consumer/ business tips and summarize.

 

  1. Research the effect on productivity of

 

    1. Government expenditures (example welfare, grants, etc.)
    2. Regulations
    3. Tax policies

 

Type a report explaining your findings. It must have a cover page with a title and your name.  It must have a reference page listing the websites that you referenced.  You must have at least three sources.  The body should be at least two pages double spaced.

    1. Create a PowerPoint about the research to share with the class.

                                                              i.      The PowerPoint must have a header slide with the title and your name.

                                                            ii.       It also must have a references slide that list the websites that you used for your information.

                                                          iii.      You must have a minimum of five sources. 

                                                           iv.      Save the PowerPoint on your H: drive.

                                                             v.      Print out a hard copy to go in your portfolio.  (Choose handouts 6 per page)

 

4.  Resume and Cover Letter – Using the resources located in the room on resume preparation; prepare a resume and cover letter for your portfolio.

 

5.  Design a puzzle using the terms from Unit 7 (Chapters 28-29) on consumer-awareness skills.  You can choose from word search, word search with a hidden message, or cross word.  Print a copy to reproduce and one with the answers.    Please use the following web site:
