Dear Parents,
As your child’s new second grade teacher, I would first like to welcome each one of you to our classroom community and to a great new year! This year, your children will have Mrs. Arquiette as a full-time aide who, I can assure you, will be a great asset to our class. Our schedule this year will be a busy one, and your children will have the following specials to look forward to throughout the week:
*Monday— Art
*Tuesday—Sister Mary Vincent, Music, and Guidance
*Wednesday - Physical Education (don’t forget about the school PE uniform!) and Technology
*Thursday—Library
Starting Tuesday and every Monday following, as a way to keep you updated on your child’s work week, I will send home a sheet entitled “What’s Playing in 2-2.” This sheet will list the spelling and vocabulary words (which will be used as bonus words on the spelling tests) and a schedule of tests during the week. This paper will also serve as a homework sheet, so your child should keep this paper in his or her homework folder and bring it to school daily so he or she can fill in the necessary homework assignments each day. Any important notices and reminders (or celebrations) for the week will also be listed on this page.
During the first week of school, I will be sending a few of your child’s books home daily to be covered. All the workbooks will need to be covered with clear contact paper, and a brown paper bag or book sock will be needed to cover the hardback reading textbook. Please send in your child’s school supplies (with his or her name) as soon as possible if you have not already done so.
I can be reached during the school day at (540) 286-1600, extension #132 or via notes sent with your child in the morning. Feel free also to email me at smanzano@holycrossweb.com. I will get back to you as quickly as possible on every occasion. Please do not hesitate to contact me whenever needed. Please visit my website www.schoolrack.com/swood and sign up on my mailing list. I will be emailing every Sunday night with the test and spelling schedule for the week, along with any extra information.
I look forward to meeting all of you at orientation and wish you and your children a wonderful first week of school!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Manzano
