Recipe Card Book ReportProject           We have been learning about 14 literary genres this past week, and how to do a book report. We will continue to talk about book reports and identify genres next week too.  Now we are going to take what we learned and put it to use.  Each student will be responsible for doing their own book report recipe cards. Each student will have to do 1 non-fiction book and 3 fiction books. The fiction books may not be the same genre like two fantasy stories, they need to be different one fantasy and one mystery as an example.   The students will be provided with 4 5X8 cards to do their project on.   All book reports are due no later than November 21st, but they can turn them in as they complete them. Each card is worth 25 points so all 4 together will be 100 points. All book report recipe cards will be graded on having all the information asked for and completed in the right order. An example will be provided in this packet and we will do one or two together in class.  Top Center: Title, Author and Literary genre                  First Paragraph: Summary of the story which should include character, setting and plot. This should be done in 1 paragraph, which is at least 5 sentences.  After reading I should have a good idea what the book is about. For non-fiction this will be a suumary of what the book is about.            Second Paragraph: This paragraph is the student’s opinion of the book.  The student must back up his or her opinion and give reason why he or she feels this way. (Example of what not to do:  I didn’t like this story because it was boring. Or I liked this story because it was funny.  I need details telling how you feel about the book.)            Third Paragraph:  This paragraph should tell the student’s recommendation of who would like this book and why.             Extra points: To receive extra points on this project a student could insert a quote or short passage from the book after the plot to interest the reader.  It should include a main character and an exciting event to interest the person to read the book.  The excerpt can also be used to support who the student recommends the book to or the student’s opinion of the book.           This packet will include the Book Report Recipe that we covered in class, Genre Group Book Review to give a better explanation of what questions can be to help write the book report, and one examples of a good book report.

****6th period must do one non-fiction and 4 fiction books.
