November Class Project to Help Needy Children

After reading and discussing ways to help needy children, our class decided they would like to have a collection drive to help the Interface Youth Program. This is a local transition home for area children. After checking with one of our school's kindergarten teachers, who is also involved with the program, the following list of useful items were compiled that could be collected and donated to this organization.

Any donations are strictly voluntary. If you would like your child to contribute one or more items to this charity, please allow him to bring it to school between now and November 16. We will pass on all donated items the week of Thanksgiving.

This is strictly optional.  Since all ages participate in this parade,  scarey costumes are not encouraged. No toy weapons or fake blood are allowed. If you have any questions, please call the school office.  955-6706.

Several parents have already returned the yellow conference schedule that went home last Friday. If you have not returned this form please do so, and/or call the school to set up a time that you would like to come in for a conference. Please leave a number that I can call to confirm your time.

BOOK - IT PROGRAM begins this month!

Your child need only read 2 books per week and turn in their Home Reading Log on time each month in order to earn a free pizza from Pizza Hut.  Parents, be sure to sign the form and help them by placing it in their homework folder when complete.

 CHANGE IN HOMEWORK PLAN

As directed by the school administration, your child will no longer be bringing home a weekly fluency reading sheet each week. In its place, your child will be tested on fluency in class using stories from the reading book that they practice in class.

SPELLING SENTENCES FOR HOMEWORK

Writing sentences with the weekly spelling words will continue to be a regular part of your child's homework plan. If your child has not been writing sentences each week, please help them to begin this week!

Writing sentences is a part of their spelling grade and will help them to make the words a part of their everyday vocabulary. They need to attempt to make their sentences varied and interesting.

DISMISSAL CHANGES

Please remember that if you wish for your child to change the way that they get home (for example: they will be walking instead of riding the bus) then you MUST either send a note or call the school before dismissal (955-6706). We CANNOT allow your child to leave differently if you have not contacted the school. Thank you for all your help.Cool

MID YEAR READING TEST

When? Wed., Dec. 19

Please help your child get an early and restful night's sleep on Tues., so that they can do their best and be ready to begin a brand new reading book in Jan., 2008!

HAPPY HOLIDAY READING !!!

Please help your child foster an enthusiasm for reading by perhaps purchasing some books for them or checking some out from the library.

Also, I am encouraging them to keep a "reading rope" over the holidays. They will each receive a rope with instructions to put 1 knot in the rope for every book that they read. They may even reread the same book and put a new knot in for each time that they read it! They may bring it to class for a treat and discuss their favorite book.
