Ways to challenge your child with the nightly homework

Friday- Sunday-  On a piece of paper, have your child write the name of the item he/she is bringing to school on Monday that starts with the letter we are learning for the week.  Or, he/she can write a sentence using the word for the name of the item he/she is bringing to school.

Monday night-  Have your child write the words under the pictures of the items that begin with the sound we are learning for the week.  Or, on the back of the paper, he/she can write a sentence using one or more of the words for the pictures that begin with the sound we are learning for the week.

Tuesday night- Instead of writing the letters 5 times on each line, your child can write a word that starts with the letter of the week on each line.

Wednesday night- After your child reads a book for the Book-It program, he/she can write a sentence telling what the book was about.

Thursday night-  Instead of writing the words of the week 5 times each, your child can write a sentence using one or more of the words of the week.

Homework for the week of May 7th-11th

Words of the week:  under, as, give, saw

Homework (5-4-12)

Friday-Sunday night-  Look in your home for something that begins with the long /o/ sound or that has the long /o/ sound in it. (example- oatmeal)  Bring this item to school on Monday.  This item will be placed on the “letter of the week” board and will be returned home on Friday, May 11th.

*Please send rest towels and library books back to school on Monday.

Monday night- Write an addition problem for how many boys and how many girls live in your house.  (example:  3 girls + 0 boys= 3 people that live in my house)  Do the addition problem both vertically and horizontally. Draw a picture to go with your addition sentence and bring this paper to school on Tuesday.

Tuesday night-  Follow the directions on the attached piece of paper for the long /o/ sound.  Bring this paper to school on Wednesday.

Wednesday night- Using one of this week’s words of the week (give, under, give, as), write a sentence on page 100 in your agenda.  Remember to start the sentence with a capital letter, put a space between the words, and end the sentence with a period.  Remember not to use any capital letters in the middle of your sentence!  Bring your agenda to school on Thursday.

Thursday night- On page 101 in your agenda, write 5 words that start with the long /o/ or that have the long /o/ sound in them.  Illustrate these words.   Bring your agenda to school on Friday.

*Remember to save and send in Box Tops for Education and Campbell’s soup labels.  We are now also collecting Tyson’s points.  They will be collected until the end of the school year.  Be sure to save them over the summer, too!  J

**If you have not returned the form letting me know what day of the week and time are good for you to come in for a spring conference, please do so as soon as possible.

Homework for the week of May 21st-25th

Words of the week:  we will not have any new words of the week this week- we will review the 100+ words that we have learned this year!

Homework (5-18-12)

Friday-Sunday night– Look in your home for something that begins with the /ar/ sound, or that has the /ar/ sound in it.  Examples:  “aardvark” or “art”.   Bring this item to school on Monday to be placed on the “sound of the week” bulletin board.  This item will be returned home on Thursday, May 24th.

Monday night-  Follow the directions on the attached math paper.  Bring this paper to school on Tuesday.

Tuesday night- Think of 5 words that begin with the /ar/sound, or that have the /ar/ sound in them.  Write these words on page 106  in your agenda.  Remember to illustrate the words- this will help your child read the words independently.  Bring your agenda to school on Wednesday.

Wednesday night- Have your child write a sentence on page 107 in their agenda about something that they really liked about in kindergarten.  Remind your child to start the sentence with a capital letter, put spaces between words, and end the sentence with a period.  Bring your agenda to school on Thursday.

Thursday night-  Tomorrow is our end of the year program.  It will begin at 8:30 a.m.  Please have your child dressed in his/her program clothes (cool, comfortable clothes in bright colors) and to school by 8:00 so we can prepare for the program.  After the program, we will go back to our classroom and wait for parents to come to the classroom to pick up their child’s envelope which contains his/her report card.  If you plan to check out your child after the end of the year program, please be sure to sign your child out.  (there will be a sign-out sheet in my classroom)

*Remember to save Box Tops, Campbells’ soup labels, and Tyson’s A+ points during the summer and bring them to school in August!

Please fill out and return to school by Thursday, May 24th:
