Meet Your Child's Teacher

This is my 19th year of teaching, 16 of which have been in kindergarten.  I taught for 11 years for the Clayton County School System, and this is my 8th year teaching for the Coweta County School System.  This is my 2nd year at White Oak Elementary.

I received my undergraduate degree from Georgia State University in 1988.  I earned my Master's Degree from GSU in 1992.  I earned my Specialist's Degree from West Georgia State University in 1998.

I have 2 daughters, ages 13 and 8.  The oldest attends 8th grade at Arnall Middle School and the youngest is in 3rd grade here at White Oak.  I also have a Boxer, named K.D.

Behavior Contract

Discipline Policy

In order to provide a safe and happy place for all our students, we have established some general rules to insure classroom management.  These rules have been discussed, role-played, and modeled with the students during the first week of school and will be reviewed other times during the school year, if necessary.

Classroom Rules

1.        Raise your hand to speak.

2.        Listen and follow the teacher’s directions the first time they are given.

3.        Follow the school rules in all parts of the building.

4.        Treat people the way you want to be treated.

5.        Keep your hands, feet, and objects to yourself.

Rewards

1.        Verbal praise from the teacher

2.        Positive note to take home

3.        Treat from the treat bag

4.        Sticker for sticker chart (after the chart has five stickers, the child will go to the prize box)

5.        Marbles in the cup to help earn a class popcorn party.

Consequences

First offense-  The child will receive a verbal warning from the teacher and move his/her clothespin to the “uh-oh face”.

Second offense-  The child will move his/her clothespin to the “sad” and sit in the time out chair for 5 minutes.  This is a time for the child to think about his/her behavior. (loss of 1 point)

Third offense-  The child will move his/her clothespin to the “crying” face and sit in time out in another kindergarten class for 10 minutes. (loss of a 2nd point)

Fourth offense-  The child will move his/her clothespin to the next face and sit in time out in another kindergarten class for 30 minutes.  If the child does not follow the rules after returning to the classroom, he/she will be referred to the office or I will call his/her parent.  (loss of a 3rd point)

*For severe discipline issues, these steps may be bypassed and the child will be taken to the office.

Your child will begin each 9 weeks grading period with a conduct grade of 100%.  Each time he/she goes to time out, a point will be deducted from the 100%.  The weekly behavior reports will show the cumulative behavior grade your child has, as of the Friday that the report goes home.

For the first week of school, we have been explaining the classroom and school rules to the children. A weekly behavior report will be sent home each Friday in your child’s homework folder. (beginning Friday, August 17th)  It should be signed and returned on Mondays.  Remember to praise your child for his/her good behavior!  Please look at your child’s behavior report as a whole, not focusing on just one “bad day” of the week.  We all have “bad days”- even grown-ups! Thank you in advance for your support and cooperation.
