All Science Fair information went home Friday, December 5th.

The final project is due on Tuesday, January 13th.

Dear Parents,

 

            This year, the seventh grade science students will be developing science investigation projects. They will be working on these projects from today’s date until Tuesday, January 13th. Your child should have complete ownership of his or her project and make all final decisions about what the project will include. However, your support and encouragement will be very helpful. I have included a copy of the requirements for this project. A science display board will be required for this project. These can be purchased at local stores such as Wal-Mart. They will also be sold at the school bookstore. Please feel free to call me if you have any questions 837-5600. The best time to reach me is during my planning period between 12:45 to 1:40. This project will be optional however, for the students that participate it will be worth up to 100 bonus points on the 3rd nine weeks average.

Science Investigation Project Topics may NOT include product testing. NO which battery, paper towel, and/or laundry detergent works best! Please choose a topic that you are interested in and that is on the 7th grade level! If in doubt PLEASE ASK!!  What must be included for each step
  • Title-What is it about?
 
  • Purpose-What you want to find out.
 
  • Hypothesis-What you think will happen.
 
  • Materials List-What are you going to use? Test tubes, two plants, etc…
 
  • Documented Sources-Where did you do your research? It is required that you

have two sources of research (Tell me where you got your information). Use the given sheet – you may make copies.

 
  • Procedures-What you are going to do. For example:

Step 1- Place 10 test tubes in the rack.

Step 2- Using a dropper fill each tube with 5ml of hydrochloric acid.

Step 3-Etc….

Step 4-Etc….

 
  • Pictures or Drawings- You must have at least two pictures or drawings on the final board. Only photograph the project you are not allowed to be in the picture.
 
  • Results- What happened?
  
  • Charts and Tables- You are required to have two charts or tables on the final board. Pie charts, Line bars, etc. Show the results.
 
  • Conclusions-What you learned. Did it go as planned? Why? Did it not go as planned? Why not? Needs to be a minimum of two five sentence paragraphs.
  
  • Oral Presentation- You will have to do an oral presentation explaining the project. You will be expected to answer questions about the project as well as being able to clearly explain what you did from a prepared dialogue.
