Class Requirements(Also under "Files" above)

             Class Requirements for Pre-Algebra/Algebra I

Student’s Name: __________________________

1. BE ORGANIZED! Organize your locker and binders.

2. Come to class equipped to work.  Bring a pencil, paper, and book (these are to stay home as we will have a classroom set.   I will not issue hall passes to students to go get supplies.

3.  Being and or becoming organized is a necessity as we mature as learners.  We will take notes, work examples, and have homework/classwork in notebooks or binders.  The highlights, charts, graphs, etc will be placed in our learning logs, which will be left in our individual files in the class cabinets.   We will use composition notebooks for our learning logs.  Learning logs are where we will keep important data and finalized work, charts, graphs, etc.

4. Your grade each 9 weeks will be calculated using the following:  70% from Tests and Quizes, 20% from Daily classwork, homework, and participation, and 10% from 9-week exams.

Classwork/Homework -- This work must be checked and corrected by the student as the material is covered in class. This work should be kept in your binder even if it is not a graded assignment. This work ismainly graded on effort, so be sure to show work rather than just answers in order to receive credit.

(50pts) Quizzes - cover small amounts of material currently being studied in class-so study daily.  (100pts)Major Tests -- They will cover several topics                                                                       (200pts)Nine Weeks Tests -- each 9-weeks, which covers all of the material for that 9-week period.

As you may know, in order to “know” math, you need to “do” the work, so be sure to complete and check your review sheets for these tests.(Points will be earned for work shown on review sheets.)   (TBA)Menu Items-Various tasks on a current unit and students select the tasks they wish to work (200pts)Projects--Time will be given to complete these in class, and most materials are in the room.

5. Homework will be checked and corrected daily. Do not get the impression that it is not important just because it is not taken up daily--sometimes I will take up several assignments from the week, so keep your assignments neat and orderly.  I tend to take up each week’s participation assignments on Friday.

6. Make-up work can become a HUGE problem for both of us. On the day that you return from being absent, check with your classmates and class calendar. These will tell you the assignments that you missed and whether or not if we had a test on the day(s) you were absent. MAKE UP WORK IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY--TAKE IT SERIOUSLY.

7. Math binders should be checked by parents weekly to see that assignments are complete.

8. The textbook is your responsibility. If you misplace it and someone else damages it, you are responsible for the fees that may apply. Therefore, keep your book at home, use my class set when needed, and do not allow others to know your locker combination.

9. I am available for conferences during my planning time, which is during 3rd  period. I’ll be glad to meet with you or talk with you on the phone. Just call the school to set up an appointment or send me an email.

10. SIGN AND KEEP THIS SET OF REQUIREMENTS IN YOUR BINDER.

Sincerely,

Shell-lee Dawkins
