Class Requirements

Class Requirements for Pre-Algebra/Algebra I

Student’s Name: __________________________

1. BE ORGANIZED! Organize your locker and binders.

2. Come to class equipped to work. Bring your binders with LOOSE LEAF paper, pencils, and your textbook. I will not issue hall passes to students to go get supplies.

3. Keeping an orderly binder is a necessity. The first page of your binder is this class requirement sheet, which needs to be kept in a sheet protector (which I will provide for you). This page is followed by bell ringers (warm ups)then actual assignments, which will be called “entries.” Any tests or quizzes will be kept in a student file in my room. If you would like to review these with your child, just send a note, and I will give the test to your child. However, I will need it signed and returned when you are finished reviewing it.

4. Your grade each 9 weeks will be calculated using the following:

Classwork/Homework -- This work must be checked and corrected by the student as the material is covered in class. This work should be kept in your binder even if it is not a graded assignment. This work is mainly graded on effort, so be sure to show work rather than just answers in order to receive credit.

(50pts) Quizzes -- They cover small amounts of material currently being studied in class---so study daily.

(100pts)Major Tests -- These will be announced several days in advance. They will cover several topics.

(200pts)Nine Weeks Tests -- one test each 9-weeks, which covers all of the material for that 9-week period.

As you may know, in order to “know” math, you need to “do” the work, so be sure to complete and check your review sheets for these tests.(Points will be earned for work shown on review sheets.)

(200pts)Projects--Time will be given to complete these in class.

5. Homework will be checked and corrected daily. Do not get the impression that it is not important just because it is not taken up daily--sometimes I will take up several assignments from the week, so keep your assignments neat and orderly.

6. Graded assignments need to be logged into your calendar sheet as they are graded. This will allow you to know exactly what your grade is at any time during the 9 weeks.(These will match on STI.)

7. Make-up work can become a HUGE problem for both of us. On the day that you return from being absent, check with your classmates and class calendar. These will tell you the assignments that you missed and whether or not if we had a test on the day(s) you were absent. MAKE UP WORK IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY--TAKE IT SERIOUSLY.

8. The class calendars should be checked by parents weekly to see that the grades are being recorded correctly.

9. The textbook is your responsibility. If you misplace it and someone else damages it, you are responsible for the fees that may apply. Therefore, keep up with your book and do not allow others to know your locker combination.

10. I am available for conferences during my planning time, which is during 3rd period. I’ll be glad to meet with you or talk with you on the phone. Just call the school to set up an appointment or send me a note.

11. SIGN AND KEEP THIS SET OF REQUIREMENTS IN YOUR BINDER.

Sincerely,

Shell-lee Dawkins (sdawkins@jefcoed.com)

I have read and understand these class requirements.
