7th Grade Language Arts
Course Syllabus
This syllabus will outline the rules, procedures, consequences, rewards,and academic requirements that pertain to your child’s 7th grade Language Arts class. It is required that the student put forth a sincere effort to follow the guidelines that have been set for them to be successful. Some policies maybe subject to change during the school year. All policies will adhere to Walton County procedures.
Academic Expectations
1. Students are expected to complete all assignments that are assigned in class and for homework.
2. If a student is absent, that student has five days to turn in his/her make-up work. The make-up work is expected on the fith school day. Special circumstances, such as long term illnesses, may require that the policy be modified for individual students. This is at the discretion of the instructor.
3. Grades will be assigned, in accordance with Walton County Board of Education policies
4. Students will be required to keep a three-ring binder that will hold their class work for all five of their classes. A table of content will be provided for Language Arts students. It is the student’s responsibility to keep the binder items in an organized fashion. The instructor will make every effort to three-hole punch papers for students. The Language Arts section of the binder will be checked periodically during the year. A notebook table of content will be posted in the classroom.
5. The Walton County Mastery Grading System is:
40%- Test, Projects, Essays, Performance Tasks.
30%- Quizzes.
20% Class work, Homework, Essay Drafts, etc.
10% - Notebooks, Class Participation.

Classroom Policies and Procedures
1. Students will enter the classroom quietly and begin to work on warm-up assignment.
2. Students will raise their hands and be acknowledged before speaking.
3. If a strike is issued, the teacher will discuss the matter with the student at the end of class. Instructional time will not be used to discuss discipline decisions.
4. Students are expected to read 25 novels or the equivalent of 1,000,000 words during the course of the year. They are required to bring a novel to class every day. They are to read their novel during DAT and when they are finished with other assignments. We will read some class novels, but this is largely an individual goal mandated by the State of Georgia.
5. Students will leave the room at the end of period as released by the teacher not by the bell. Every effort will be made to make sure the student’s are on-time for the next period.

During the year, our class will use a lot of the following supplies. Any supplies that you can donate would be greatly appreciated!Boxes of Tissue (Kleenex, etc.) Paper Towels Hand Sanitizer Clorox Wipes White Copy Paper Colored Copy Paper
Class Rules
1. Come to class on time and prepared (book, paper, pen/pencil).
2. No gum or candy allowed (unless issued by teacher).
3. Keep your hands, feet, and all other objects to yourself.
4. Raise your hand for permission to speak.
5. Do not interfere with the learning of others.
6. Obey all adults on the first request.
Respect Every Single Person Especially Classmates & Teachers
- The Loganville Middle School Strike System will be enforced.
- Lunch Detentions or Strikes will be issued for minor offenses outlined in the LMS handbook.
- A detention will be issued after the third strike. Parent contact will be made.
- Severe behavior will be referred directly to our grade level administrator.
