Class Policies
Citizenship: All students are expected to treat other people, thier belongings, and the school building itself with respect. Students must refrain from bullying, disrupting class, and being rude to other students or the teacher. Politeness and cooperation is expected from all students at all times.
Neatness: All assignments must be completed neatly. Each problem should be copied with all work shown, and the answer circled or boxed. Any work submitted that is unreadable for me is also ungradable. Any unreadable work may receive a partial or zero grade.
- Calculators: A scientific calculator will be needed for Geometry. Graphing calculators are allowed in Geometry. A TI-83, TI-84, or TI-89 is recommended for Algebra 2, although this calculator may not be allowed on certain tests and quizzes. In those cases, a simple calculator may be used. A TI-83, TI-84, or TI-89 is mandatory for Trig/Precalculus. I do not recommend any other type of TI since other models either do not have all the functionality needed for Calculus or they are not allowed on the AP test. If you choose to play a game on your calculator during class time when you are suppsed to be listening, taking notes, working, or otherwise engaged, your calculator will be confiscated.
- Late Work: Absolutely no late work is accepted.
- If you know you are going to be absent (athletics, LUP, college/Ashland trips, etc.) it is important that you still keep up with the homework. If you are going to be at school on the day that the absence will occur, any work due that day is still due that same day, or it may be considered late and not be accepted. You may turn in your homework into my box in the office or send it to class with a friend you trust. Your best effort should be made to complete the homework that is due the day you return. However, you will have the number of days equal to the number of days of your excused absence to make up your missed work.
- If you are sick or have some other last minute excused absence you will be permitted the number of days you were absent to make up the work. For example, if you are sick on Monday and Tuesday, you have Wednesday and Thursday to make up your work before it is due on Friday.
- If your absence is unexcused you may not be allowed to make up missed work.
- Tardies: You must be in your seat and ready to work when the bell rings. If you walk into the class after the bell rings without a pass, you will be considered tardy. If you are in the classroom but not in your seat, you will be considered tardy. The penalty for the first two tardies is a lunch detention. The penalty for the third tardy is an after-school detention.
- Food and Gum: It is against school rules to eat or chew gum in class. Water in a clear plastic bottle with a lid is permitted.
- Missed Homework: All homework can be found on Aeries. If you are gone, please do not email to ask for missed homework. I assume that if you can send an email, you look up Aeries. In addition, a calendar of assignments is kept in the classroom, and you may copy your missed assignments from there.
- Make-Up Tests: If you are absent the day of a test, you need to make an appointment with me for after school to make up the test. You will not be given class time to make up tests or quizzes. Tutorial is rarely long enough to complete a test.
- Grading Scale: The following grading scale will be used:
80%-89% B
70%-79% C
60%-69% D
0%-59% F
A grade of 70% or above both in the class and on the final will demonstrate proficiency. Any grade below 70% is not considered proficient; no student will be permitted to move on to the next math class the subsequent year with a grade below 70%.
- Grades on Aeries: Please allow up to one week for grades to be posted on Aeries. Your Aeries grade is the most up-to-date grade available. If it’s not on Aeries yet, it’s not graded.
