Nov. 30: Questions on Time article on Burma due. Please work on the three worksheets on Japan I distributed to you Thursday. These are due on Tuesday. If you want to read ahead, the chapters on Japan we will be covering are 16, 17 & 18.
Dec. 14: You do not have any formal break to do over the break. That's because of the tremendous amount of work you did before break. Great job! In January, we will begin our next stop on the World Cultures tour - Australia.
Jan. 4: Australia maps due. If you had to leave early for the basketball games, the maps are due on Monday.
Jan. 7: Lecture on early Australian history, with worksheet and info sheet on Captain James Cook and Great Britain's early uses of Australia as a penal colony. Today you will also receive guidelines for your 2nd marking period project on Australia. We will discuss this project in more detail and I will answer questions on it during class.
Jan. 23: Outback reading and questions due, as well as "Meet the Prime Minister" assignment. Once everyone turns in these assignments, we will wrap up our study of Australia and begin studying India.
A reminder: Your 2nd trimester projects are due the week of Feb. 25.
Jan. 28: Review of India demographic profile/data sheet from "India Business" Web site. Jan. 29: Classwork - Indian Subcontinent map (fill in the city, body of water, neighboring country) and Bengali Tiger worksheet. Both due at the end of class. If not, they will be homework and due tomorrow when you come to class.
Reminder: I will be checking Chapter 21 notes on Friday, Feb. 1!!! The notes are worth 30 points so please do a thorough and neat job on them. Thank you for your hard work!!
Feb. 4: Review Jeopardy! on information we've covered so far on India.
Feb. 5: Natural disasters in India. India appears to be a magnet for monsoons, droughts, tropical cyclones, earthquakes, etc. We will visit the computer lab to research natural disasters.
Feb. 6: Presentations on natural disasters.
Feb. 7: Bollywood! Students go to India Online to check out a film and music industry that dwarves Hollywood.

Week of Feb. 11
Feb. 11: Finish watching Imax video: "India: Kingdom of the Tiger" Class will receive a handout on endangered species on India. We will have a dialogue about how India can manage its industrial, population and commercial growth with preserving its ecosystem.
Feb. 12: In-class reading and notes on Chapter 23.
REMINDER: UNIT TEST ON INDIA WILL BE FRIDAY, FEB. 22. The test will draw on all the handouts I have given you over the past 6 weeks, as well as your notes from videos, and material from Chapters 21 & 22 from your textbook. We will spend Thursday (Feb. 21) reviewing for the Exam.

Feb. 25: Review Indian Crossword Puzzle. Clues made by teacher.
Feb. 26: India Unit test - multiple choice, fill in the blanks, true and false, short answer. For homework, please bring in a newspaper or Internet article on the Middle East, our next area of study. Please do not bring an article on the war in Iraq. We will discuss this issue separately for an entire week later in the unit.
Feb. 27: Trimester Projects due. Discussion of Middle East articles.
March 3: Review of India test. Start of Mohammed video. Detailed note-taking required.
March 4: Finish video. Discussion of Mohammed. Directions for creating an essay on Mohammed from notes.
March 5: Rough drafts of Mohammed essays due. (15 points)
March 7: Final Mohammed essay due. (50 points)
March 10: National Geographic video - "20 Days to Baghdad"
March 11: Class discussion on video. Iraq war packet distributed. We will begin reviewing the information in the packet I've put together on the war. Please begin reading the information on your own so you come to class prepared to speak.
March 17: Handout on Syria. Class discussion on demographics, history, economy, environment and politics. Also, discussion of why Syria has been in the news this year and why the United States and Syria are currently not getting along.
March 18: Review of Chapters 33 & 34 for quiz on Wednesday.
March 19: Chapter 33 & 34 quiz.
March 31: Review of current events in Middle East during Spring Break.
April 1: Review of Middle East quiz. Brief lecture on history of Israeali-Palestinian feuding and failed attempts by U.S. (for decades) to broach a peace settlement.
April 2: Video on the origins of Judaism. Note-taking required.
April 3: Review of video. (discussion will be student led). Teacher will check notes from video (30 points).
April 4: Lecture and handout packet on Judaism.

WE WILL HAVE A CHAPTER 37 QUIZ ON WEDNESDAY, APRIL 23.
April 21-25: Introduction to South America. Map assignment, Chapter 27 reading and note-taking, handouts on the deforestation of the Brazilian rainforest.
April 28: Charles Darwin and the Galapalos Islands. Discussion of Darwin's main ideas, including natural selection and survival of the fittest. Then IMAX video on Galapagos.
May 5-May 8: Worksheet on Aztecs, Mayans and Toltecs due Monday, May 5. Quiz on Mexico May 7. Quiz will include Mexican cities and waterways from Latin America map, Chapter 31 reading on assignment board, information from Aztec worksheet and immigration packet.
May 7 & 8: Begin unit on Central America.
May 9: Homework: Read Chapter 32. Take comprehensive notes. Notes will be checked and graded on May 16 (30 points).
