Beowulf is the earliest of epic stories in English. We study the picture it presents of what a hero is, how he interacts with his society, and how the view of a hero changes through time. Included in these lessons are: vocabulary, the epic itself, social background of the Vikings, kennings and alliteration, and elegies. We see a video, and do one writing exercise.
