IMPORTANT!

College Visits -Fall and Spring

A college visit is very important in order to make sure that you are comfortable with everything the school has to offer.  Oftentimes a student will have their heart set on a particular school until they actually visit the campus. Likewise, a student will change their mind about a school they'd not considered after visiting the campus and talking with current students.

Be sure and check to see if the school you're interested in visiting is offering Fall and Spring open house opportunities.  There are a few schools that only offer fall open houses, so check now to make sure. Spring is a busy time for college visits so I advise you to plan ahead.  Select your top three schools and register to attend their Open Houses.     If for some reason you are not able to attend the Open House, call the school to set up a one-on-one tour.

You can find a list of Open Houses for NC colleges & universities by visiting www.cfnc.org.

Importance of taking the SAT in the spring of Junior year!

Parents & Juniors:

It is very important that you take the SAT or ACT at least twice in the spring of your junior year.  By doing so, you are relieving yourself of a lot of pressure during the fall of your senior year.

Schools look at the highest scores in each both categories - Math/Verbal - to determine your overall score. You will also have at least two test scores to submit to the college(s) of your choice.  You will be able to concentrate on the following things:

  • Early application to the college (s) of your choice
  • Applying for scholarships
  • Focusing on senior classes and other activities

If you procrastinate and don't take your tests at all during your junior year, you will have the pressure of doing so in the fall of your senior year, hoping to make a decent score, and trying to get your admissions applications in as early as possible.
