About me

Welcome to the new school year and my lesson plan page! Please take a look around. I have posted links to some exciting music websites.  I also will post articles about many famous musicians you should know. Please come back and visit this page frequently as I intend to continue posting new links on this page.

If I have not worked with your child before, please allow me to take a few moments and introduce myself. I am in my 26th year of teaching. I received a Bachelor of Science in Music Education from the University of North Alabama in 1985.  While at UNA, I served as field commander (drum major) for the "Pride of Dixie" Marching Band. I also was a charter member and officer of Tau Beta Sigma National Band Honorary. I served as a writer for the school paper and was a dorm counselor. I participated in the marching band, percussion ensemble, flute choir, concert band and pep band. I had a part time job as a lead sheet writer at the famous Muscle Shoals Sound Studio and periodically worked for Wishbone Recording Studios and Fame Recording Studios.

After teaching a few years as a high school band director, I attended the University of Southern Mississippi on a graduate assistantship and received a Masters in Music Education. I served as an assistant teacher and conductor with the concert and marching bands.

I was a high school band director for about 16 years and enjoyed many successes. My bands won state championships and one band was second in the nation at a competition at Giant Stadium! Some other highlights of my band's performances were performing at Disneyworld numerous times, with the USMC band at Cherry Point, NC and for the Governor of the State of Alabama at a bridge dedication.

I hold memberships in Tau Beta Sigma (served as National President,) Music Teachers National Association and Music Educators National Conference. I was a consultant for the USMC Music Division and restructured their recruiting process. I have served as a state officer in various organizations in Maryland and Mississippi. I currently serve as State Vice President for Pre College Evaluations for MTNA.

I am currently teaching general music at Central and West Elementary. I enjoy teaching children of all ages and love to watch them grow from year to year. I look forward to working with your child this year!
