Course Materials: notebook paper, pencils, highlighter, Acc. Math folder/work from regular math class, calculator* (for 7th and 8th graders only)
* I recommend a calculator with a multi-view screen such as a TI 30XS, TI 34, or a graphing calculator.
Course Description: This course is to serve as a support to the regular math class and foster in building a foundation of math knowledge and skills. The course will and go step-by-step with the regular math class, but in a smaller setting with more one-on-one time. Your student's progress will be monitored every 4.5 weeks and with shown academic progress, you may earn your way out of the Math Lab.
My Class Rules: 4 Be’s…
- Be Respectful
- Be Prepared
- Be on Time
- Be Ready to Learn
Core School Rules: All students must:
- Be punctual and bring all supplies to class;
- Keep hands, feet, and belongings to himself/herself;
- Remain seated unless otherwise instructed;
- Follow directions; and
- No food or drinks in the classroom.
Grading:
10% - Homework: Students are required to scan their A.M. twice a week and turn in their two best TOPS Reports for the week.
10% - Classwork: Participation/behavior, bell ringers, daily assignments, quizzes, and Accelerated Math goal.
20% - In-Class Project (Study Island): Students will be assigned objectives at the beginning of each nine-week period that is to be completed by the end of that nine-week period.
25% - Teacher-Made Mixed Practices
25% - Teacher-Made Unit Exam (Regular Math Class)
10% - District Cumulative Exam
Late and Absentee Work:
Any work or notes missed while absent will be your responsibility to get from me or another student in class. Late work is not acceptable and results in a loss of 10 points, if the assignment is for a grade.
Accelerated Math:
Accelerated Math (A.M.), in this class, will be an extension of your regular math class, where you work on skills not yet mastered and have additional time. This is where you ask for help if you have any questions; DO NOT be afraid to ask! I am here to help you succeed in the skills of your regular math class. A.M. will be part of your overall grade (your percentage of goal will count three times, your test average will count as one grade, and you will have to turn in two TOPS Reports each week). At no time should a student come to class without A.M.

Fourth Offense and up: Afterschool Detention and Call home
Study Island:
Study Island is an online MCT2 test prep program that student will use once week. Students may access Study Island at home. Students are assigned a certain number of objectives and must complete each topic with a minimum of 20 attempted problems with 85% accuracy or better. Students will be given a login (firstname.lastname@bvms) and a password. In the case a student loses his/her password I can retrieve it for you/them. I would recommend that you keep a copy of their login and password at home.
Procedures:
You are expected to enter the class quietly, have a seat, and begin bell-work. Bell-work counts as a weekly grade and is due every Friday in your class’s basket.
All the assignments that are required to be turned should be placed in your class period’s basket. You are responsible for having all assignments in by the bell. Anything turned in later is considered LATE.
I look forward to the semester with you and have the greatest confidence you will enjoy the class.
