Rost's Math Mania

For math I use the regular classroom math program called Everyday Math from the University of Chicago.  Though it is a challenging program that requires a good deal of reading, it has the benefit of having many hands on materials, or manipulatives.  The use of manipulatives is very valuable for struggling math students.  The program also includes many math games that support the skills and which help motivate the students.  In addition the program has many supplementary materials that can be used to practice lessons. The curriculum is a spiraling program than continuously returns to skills previously taught , so that students who haven't mastered a particular skill, will be taught that skill again later in the program, but at a higher level. I use some other supplementary materials to practice computation skills.

I sometimes teach math in the regular classroom, and sometimes I pull small groups to a separate environment to reteach and practice skills. Homework varies each day, Monday through Thursday nights, but will always be related to a skill taught in class that day, or some needed computation practice to support their application skills.
