What is Accelerated Math?
Accelerated Math is a self-paced, computerized math program that allows all students to master the necessary math skills they need to be successful. This program works by allowing your child to work continually on practices until they are ready to test a skill. They will then be printed a test. After a test is completed, the objective will be considered "mastered".
Accelerated Math is an ongoing program; there should never be a night that your child has "no homework". Students are encouraged to scan throughout the day, and should scan at least two to three times a week. Accelerated Math practices should take approximately 30-40 minutes to complete. If you notice that it is taking your child longer, this is a good indication that they are having problems in Math.
Each student has an assigned number of objectives they must master every nine weeks (their "goal"). I line up their objectives to go along with what we are learning in class -- this means that they have seen this material before! If there is material that a student has not seen before on their ACC Math, this most likely means that they are ahead in the program (this is a good thing!). By progress reports, all students must be at 50% of their goal, and by the end of the nine-weeks they must be at 100% of their goal.
Parents, please make sure your child working on their Accelerated Math. It counts 10% of the final grade as homework. The student knows that ACC Math is their homework. I find that if a student is not doing their ACC Math, they do not do well in my class.
