CURRENT EVENTS

Today’s students are not as knowledgeable about world geography as they could be.  As a result, we will periodically research current news articles that concern the world of today.  Students need to know where the news is happening and how it relates to what we are studying in the classroom.

Assigned current events will correspond to the region of the world (see below) we are currently studying in the Eastern Hemisphere.  Each student will be required to turn in an article of news from one of the following:

Internet – printed article (see below for kid-friendly sites)

Newspaper – article cut out and attached to notebook paper

Nightly News (TV) – must be one written paragraph (5sentences) with the

                        source stated

 Format to be turned in:

Have newspaper and nightly news articles mounted on notebook paper

Name, date, and source in the top right hand corner – internet article

sources are printed on the bottom of the page

Know the location referred to in the article

Write your personal opinion of the article on the back of the page in

                         paragraph format with 5 sentences

News internet sites:  This is not an inclusive list – parents use your judgment on what is a suitable site
