Language Arts

Each week we introduce a new letter fo the alphabet. While we focus on this one letter, we continue to discuss all letters of the alphabet and the sound each letter makes. You may see your child using some hand signals when talking about the sounds a letter makes. This is called Visual Phonic. Each sound has a coordinating hand signal, meant to be one more way to make a connection between a letter and a sound. Play alphabet games with your child often. Quick naming of letters of the alphabet, both uppercase and  lowercase, in random order and also use picture cards or objects around the house to make children aware of beginning sounds. Also, please take a few minutes each night to help your child practice the "popcorn words" ( sight words..words that need to pop into your head as soon as you see them!)  Several games and packets have gone home with your child to assist you with these types of activities. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thanks!
