What do I expect of my students?

  • I expect my students to bring their assignment notebooks, Exploratory folder, and a pen or pencil to class each day.  They need to bring their weekly fluency passages and High Frequency Word lists with them daily.  They should be practicing these at home as well.  We do not have textbooks; I provide the students with the reading materials for our class.
  • I expect my students to attend school regularly. Good attendance is extremely important.  What we do in class isn't found on a worksheet, so be sure you eat a good breakfast, get enough sleep, and drink water so you stay healthy and alert.
  • I expect my students to come to class ready to work and think.  We usually have three to four activities each class period, so it is important to arrive on time and prepared to work and think!  I also expect my students to participate fully in all of the daily activities and turn in all of their daily activity and thinking sheets for participation points.
  • Finally, I expect my students to work with each other cooperatively and respectfully.  No one should ever laugh at anyone's ideas. Remember: in my class, it is okay to be wrong.  It is the THINKING that makes you smarter, not just having the right answer!
