Mission Statement:

The mission of Valley Elementary School Library is to support the curriculum of the school, and to promote life-long reading and learning both for pleasure and for information.

Borrowing policy:

Every student at Valley Elementary School visits the library once a week.  Students may borrow a book for a period of two weeks.  There are no fines charged for books not returned by the due date, however, students may not borrow another book until the first one is returned.  When a student checks out a book, that student is responsible for returning it in the condition in which it was when it was checked out.  If a book is damaged beyond repair, or is lost, the student who checked it out is responsible for the cost of replacement.

Library Class:

Library class is divided in to three activities.  The first activity is library skills lessons and announcements.  The second is book selection time, and the third is silent reading, discussion, or read-aloud time.  Library class is unstructured, therefore sometimes we don't have time for all three activities.  Sometimes we complete all three and even have extra time.  We call our extra time "Tea Time."

Mrs. Lininger says...

Library visits from parents are encouraged and volunteers are welcome.  My schedule is posted outside of the library door, or you may download it from my files.  My school day ends at 11:15 a.m.; however, if you have suggestions or concerns you would like to discuss, you may call (864-3484) or email me (NALininger@aol.com) at home.  Please encourage your student's reading and book care responsibilities.  Read to them and let them read to you.  Ask questions about their books, and let them tell you stories.  When I learn to add hyperlinks and such, to this web site I will post recommended reading lists, book reviews, and game sites that you can share with your child.  Is there a volunteer out there who will teach me?   My career goal is not to teach children to read, but to teach them to want to read.
