Assignments
Third quarter will consist of building on skills taught in the two quarters and becoming more independent and confident in our work that we complete independently. We will focus heavily on reading and writing throughout the year. It is very important that students read everyday for at least 30 minutes outside of school. It does not matter if the reading material is a 200 page novel or a 30 page magazine. The best way to get better at reading is to read everyday. Keep a word journal of words that are interesting or new to you.
Math has been some of a challenge for some students, mostly due to not knowing their basic addition, subtraction and multiplication facts. We will be working with larger numbers this year and the basic facts that I mentioned above are very important in having a better understanding in math, not just in 4th grade either, some of the concepts learned will be built upon and become more complicated as your child advances in their education. Knowing these will help them out immensely in math.
Spelling words should be studied and practiced daily. We are on Unit 27 this week. Spelling tests are on Fridays. Quiz each other on the bus or in the car. Five minutes is all it takes. I also have a link to the website I use for extra practice as well.
