Athlete of Week

The Athlete of the Week will be posted here each week during the season along with a picture and bio of the award winner. This award will be announced Monday of each week. The coaching staff will determine a male and female Athlete of the Week each week during the season.

Male Athlete of the Week 4-27-09

This week Junior thrower Jamil Pickens and Sophomore Sal DelGiudice will be the athlete of the week. Pickens has shown incredible improvements over the past two weeks. He has broken his personal bests in the Shot and Disc each of the last four meets. His improvement is directly related to his work ethic in practice.

Sal DelGiudice is a sophomore distance runner who has made a breakthrough in the 800 running a 2:05 split and in the 4x400 ran a 53 split. He also is one of the hardest workers on the team and leads our young distance crew.

Female Athlete of the week 4-27-09

Senior jumper Lauren Bokovitz is the female athlete of the week. Lauren jumped an all time personal best in the long jump at Twinsburg. He jump of 15'7" placed her first in the meet. She was also second in the high jump at 4'9". At Revere she lead the high jump relay team to a first place finish.

Male Athlete of the Week 4-20-09

Junior Matt Sitter is the male ahtlete of the week of 4-20-09. He set personal bests in the shot at 44 feet 4 inches and disc 109 feet 10 inches. He is in his first year of throwing and has a bright future with the Knights

Female Athlete of the week 4-20-09

Senior Jena Gura is the female ahtlete of the week after scoring second place in the 100 hurdles and 100 dash at the Reinart Relays in Stow. Sh ran season best time in both events and is currently the high scorer for the girls team.

Male Athlete of the week 4-13-09

John Spooney and John Hamilton are the co-athlete of the week. Spooney earned the meet MVP honors at the Kent Roosevelt Invite. He scored 20.5 points winning the 200, 2nd in the 400 and was the anchor in the 4x400 relay holding off a hard charging Normandy runner.

John Hamilton shares the honor with Spooney after winning the 100 dash at the Kent Invite leaving the competition only to stare at the back of his jersey. He also was 4th in the 400 dash and ran on the winning 4x400 relay. Hamiton set up Spooney by running a 50.2 split.  

 

Female Athlete of the week 4-13-09

Juniors Cara Boliantz and Jaynina Manibusan share the Athlete of the week. Boliantz is currently the high scorer on the girls team. This week at the Mayfield Dual she won the 100, 200, 400 and ran a leg on winning 4x100 meter relay team. At the Kent Invite she won the 200 and was 4th in the 400.

 Jaynina Manibusan is a distance runner in her first year and has been on the 4x800 relay and running the mile. At the Kent Invite she ran a personal best in the 800 and 4x800 with a 2:47. This is 15 seconds faster than she has ever run in the 800. Her hard work and dedication is paying off.

Male Athlete of the Week 4-6-09

Junior John Spooney, affectionately called "Doc" is the male athlete of the week. John is a junior and the only returning State Qualifier from last season. He has been working very ahrd to return to Columbus this year. He has anchored the 4x400, run the 400 and 200 this season. This week at the Knight Relays he ran an excellent second leg on the 4x100, anchored the 4x200 with a split of 22.3, and ran a 50.6 in the 4x400 bringing home first place beating Twinsburg. He leads by example in practice and is becoming a strong leader on the team.

Female Athlete of the Week 4-6-09

Junior Shannon Cole is the athlete of the week for the girls team. She has been a multi-facted perfromer this season running everything from the 100 to the 1600. She stepped up at the Knight Relays and ran on the 4x1600 relay. She also worked extremely ahrd in practice last week improving her 400 time down to 71 seconds. Shannon also ran cross country this year.
