WELCOME BACK TO MUSIC 2011-2012
Welcome back to music for the 2011-2012 school year! We will be learning how to read and write rhythm, sing new songs, and play instruments. I hope everyone had a wonderful summer. I can't wait to see you!!!

Instruments
We will be playing instruments in all grades, including djembe, xylophone, and handbells.
Kindergarten and 1st grade
Happy Spring!
Kindergarten has begun Unit 8 in their textbook. We are working on song and speech pieces, game songs. We are also learning aout AB form in music.
2nd and 3rd grade
HAPPY SPRING!
2nd grade is starting a unit on Jazz. They will be learning about, ostinato, scat singing, blues, call/response, and improvization. We will feature a short unit on Duke Ellington and his music as well.
Ms. Miller's class is creating a musical play based on the book, "Mortimer" by Robert Munsch.
Ms. Thompson and Ms. Smith's class are working on songs, and games from South Africa. They are learning them in the Xhosa, Pedi, and Zulu languages. They are playing in instrument ensembles consisting of djembes, shekeres, slit drums, and low drums.
