Rules, Expectations, Requirements and Grading

Rules and Expectations

Students will:

BE PROMPT to class in order to understand all directions given and to prevent disruption

BE PREPARED to work for the entire class period and nine-day cycle

BE PRODUCTIVE-no wasting time because completion of all projects is mandatory

BE POSITIVE about art class, about their classmates’ work, and about their own work

BE RESPECTFUL towards the teacher, their classmates, the art supplies, and the art classroom at all times-cursing and verbal abuse are unacceptable

Requirements

SKETCHBOOK-An important part of the course will be the sketchbook.  It will be a collection of ideas, sketches, handouts, and written work that will count towards the student’s grade. Sketchbooks are available at many retail stores (Wal-mart, CVS, AC Moore, Staples, etc.) with prices starting at $1.00.  Spiral-bound sketchbooks are best!  Paper without lines is preferred for sketching, but paper with lines is acceptable.  Students will have until the end of the FIRST TRIMESTER to obtain a sketchbook.  If they are unable to obtain one, their sketchbook grades will be worth ZERO.  Please see me if there is an issue obtaining a sketchbook.

Grading

Studio Projects=50%

The main content of this course involves the production of different studio projects.  Each studio project will be introduced through teacher and student-led discussions, slides, and demonstrations and other varied prompts and practices.  Students will work in class on individual short-term and long-term studio projects.  Throughout the art production there will be individual and class critiques and assessments.  Evaluation of the student’s studio project will be at the end of the production.  Students will be graded by using a rubric with a 5-1 scale, 5 being highest and 1 being lowest.  Both teacher and student will complete the scaled rubric, with the criteria pertaining to each studio project.  Assignments are due on due date.  Missed work will result in a lower grade.  Extensions for assignments, due to absences, need to be made with the teacher.

Daily class participation grade=25%

Students will be graded on a 5-0 scale

5-ALWAYS: on task, follows directions, respectful of rules, with little to no talking

4-MOSTLY: on task, follows directions, respectful of rules, with little talking

3-SOMETIMES: on task, follows directions, respectful of rules, with some talking

2-RARELY: on task, follows directions, respectful of rules, with much talking

1-NEVER: on task, follows directions, respectful of rules, with lots of talking

0-Detention or removal from class that day

Sketchbook=25%

All prep work for assignments will be done in the sketchbooks.  This will include ideas, sketches, handouts, and all written and visual work.  Students will be provided an area to store their sketchbook.  Students will be solely responsible for the whereabouts of their sketchbook.  Teacher is not responsible for lost or misplaced sketchbooks.
