About Me
Welcome to my website! Let me tell you a little about myself. I was born and raised in Karnes County, Texas. I graduated from Karnes City High School in 1975. I have an Associates of Applied Science in Business Mid-Management from Bee County College now known as Coastal Bend College. Prior to teaching, I was a long-haul truck driver. When trucking was deregulated, I decided to follow my dream and go back to school and become a teacher.
My undergraduate degree was in Elementary Education from Texas Lutheran College with a Kindergarten Endorsement and a specialization in Reading. I have a Master's of Education from the University of Houston at Victoria. My degree is in Curriculum and Instruction with a minor in Early Childhood Education. I have been teaching for 23 years. Fifteen years were spent at Roger E. Sides Elementary in Karnes City, the past 7 years at Leming Elementary which I loved dearly and this exciting year at Primary!
In 2007, I was named Wal-Mart's Teacher of the Year for our area. I was nominated by my campus as Distinguished Educator for 2008. I am a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, an educational, honorary and professional organization for women educators and Phi Delta Kappa International, the Professional Association in Education. I am active in the Panna Maria Historical Society and my church.
My hobbies include reading, cooking, crocheting and gardening. My favorite color is purple and I am a trained florist as well.
After being a widow for 8 years, I remarried 5 years ago to a wonderful man. Gary has recently become disabled due to Parkinson's. We are members of the Michael J. Fox Foundation. Gary has a son, Steven who is in the Army. My son, Mark is currently training to be an auto mechanic.
We live on the southwest side of Bexar County and are looking forward to moving to Panna Maria when I retire.
