Science

We have been getting out of this world as we have been studying all about our solar system. From the sun (the source of all.....) to the moon and many other celestial beings.  I have been impressed with everyone's knowledge that they bring from other grades and other years. Hopefully we can add to what they already know.

Social Studies

 January

Learning all about our Constitution, the parts of Government (the Three Branches) and how they interact.

November / December

The forming of our country is one of the most essential things students can learn in Social Studies. We looked at many events leading to and from the war. We are going to begin discussing the actual government.

We talked this week about the very first American Political Cartoon, created by Benjamin Franklin, which included a rattlesnake image which was later used in Revolutionary Flags.  Our class has some replica flags from that era.
Find out more information about them here:

I have challenged the students to remember the perspective of history.  Often we only get one perspective, but we want to keep in mind all of the people in history.

Math

One word.  Division.

For those that are still practicing, great (remember those multiplication facts).  For some students we are working on forgetting all about remainders and learning decimals.

Language Arts

AR has been going strong as has our daily reading. I was pleased to see the growth most students showed on their reading benchmark test. If your student does not remember their score (and their growth from the first test) please let me know and I will send it home for you to see.

Keep reading, all through the break.

Homework

We will have homework everyday but I hope it will be relevant for you.

Daily homework.

Read for 30 minutes. Complete the reading log.
Science Fair - you should be working.

Pay attention for extra work that needs to be completed from the days work.
