Mrs. O'Meara's First Grade

In November, we will continue to practice writing correct letter formation.  Our spelling words will be words with th/sh sound, short u sound, bl, cl, and fl blends, and long a.  During Writer's Workshop we have been focusing on conventions as a writing trait (capitalization/end punctuation).  This month we will focus on ideas and organization.  In guided reading groups, we continue to work on comprehension.  The children are predicting, retelling, sequencing events and recognizing main idea and details.       

This month the children will develop addition strategies for the facts up to 12.  We will focus on stragtegies such as, using the numberline, counting on and doubles facts.  By the end of the month, we will begin to focus on subtraction strageties for the facts up to 12.

We are finishing our unit on the five senses. The children will begin to understand the different states of matter.
