MCT2 Explained!

The Mississippi Curriculum Test, Second Edition (MCT2) will be administered in May 2012.  The Language Arts test will be administered on the first & second days and the Mathematics test will be on the third day.  It is an untimed, multiple-choice assessment.

 

Facts about the MCT2 Mathematics assessment:

  • It will measure a student's knowledge in the five competencies:  Numbers and Operations, Algebra, Geometry, Measurement, and Data Analysis and Probability. 
  • It will consist of 60 math problems.
  • Students will be allowed to use scratch paper on the Math test ONLY.
  • Students only in grades seven and eight are allowed to use approved calculators on the Mathematics assessment. (A list of approved calculators can be found below.)
  • Students who score at the Minimal Level will be referred to the Teacher Support Team (TST) as part of state policy.

These calculators are allowed on the Mathematics assessment:

  • Any 10-digit, four function (+, -, ×, ÷) calculator
  • Texas Instruments:  TI-30 Series, TI - 83, TI-83 Plus, TI-84, TI-84 Plus
  • Hewlett-Packard:  HP 38g
  • ALGEFX1.0
  • Casio FX7400, CFX-9850G Plus
  • Sharp EL-9600C

 

Students are NOT ALLOWED to use calculators with any of the folllowing features:

  • Computer Algebra System (CAS):  TI-89, TI-92 Plus, TI-Inspire, ALGEXFX2.0, ALGEFX2.0 Plus, Casio CFX-9970.
  • QWERTY Keyboards (similar to typewriter keyboards)
  • Attached electronic pens
  • Printing attachments
  • Distracting sounds
  • Raised screens
  • Attached cords
