MCT2 Explained!
The Mississippi Curriculum Test, Second Edition (MCT2) will be administered in May 2012. The Language Arts test will be administered on the first & second days and the Mathematics test will be on the third day. It is an untimed, multiple-choice assessment.
Facts about the MCT2 Mathematics assessment:
- It will measure a student's knowledge in the five competencies: Numbers and Operations, Algebra, Geometry, Measurement, and Data Analysis and Probability.
- It will consist of 60 math problems.
- Students will be allowed to use scratch paper on the Math test ONLY.
- Students only in grades seven and eight are allowed to use approved calculators on the Mathematics assessment. (A list of approved calculators can be found below.)
- Students who score at the Minimal Level will be referred to the Teacher Support Team (TST) as part of state policy.

- Any 10-digit, four function (+, -, ×, ÷) calculator
- Texas Instruments: TI-30 Series, TI - 83, TI-83 Plus, TI-84, TI-84 Plus
- Hewlett-Packard: HP 38g
- ALGEFX1.0
- Casio FX7400, CFX-9850G Plus
- Sharp EL-9600C
Students are NOT ALLOWED to use calculators with any of the folllowing features:
- Computer Algebra System (CAS): TI-89, TI-92 Plus, TI-Inspire, ALGEXFX2.0, ALGEFX2.0 Plus, Casio CFX-9970.
- QWERTY Keyboards (similar to typewriter keyboards)
- Attached electronic pens
- Printing attachments
- Distracting sounds
- Raised screens
- Attached cords
