The novel for this term is Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger. Students should keep up on the weekly readings.
Other suggestions: Study your vocabulary. Be present for the review. Get enough sleep.
Our next essay style is expository. There are several types in this category. Students will need to follow the five-paragraph format.
Introductory Paragraph 1 - introduce your topic . Make sure you include a thesis statement early in your opening paragraph and have reference to your organizational plan. Give some general facts and then transition to your second paragraph's focus topic.
Body Paragraph 1 through 3 - use each paragraph to focus on a particular feature of your support information. Begin with a topic sentence that clearly states what your paragraph will be about. This should stem directly from the transition sentence of the previous paragraph. Give specific examples, details, personal experience, experience of others, supporting data, etc. Transition to your conclusion paragraph.
Conclusion Paragraph: restate your thesis statement (also called a position statement). Refer back to one or two of your strongest supports. Draw a logical connection or conclusion based on the position you argued throughout your essay.
Continued practice in grammar and punctuation is definitely a weekly effort. While we have mastered dangling and misplaced modifiers , parallelism has given the class a new challenge. But the light appears to be showing at the end of the tunnel. Subjects and their matching verbs are now our present focus.
