Welcome Back!
Welcome Parents and Students to the 7A Storm. In Language Arts we will be exploring what it takes to become good writers and examine what good writing looks like.
Your student should have brought home a syllabus with all the important information about the class. There is a section for you to sign and the due date for that is Friday, September 3rd.
Additionally, your student will need a composition notebook. We will be creating Response Journals. It is similar to having a conversation about a topic, but it is in writing only. This will enhance your student's writing abilities and will let me get to know their thought processes.
My contact information is on the syllabus. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns. Again, welcome back to Heritage. It will be a great year and I look forward to teaching your student.
Language Arts Syllabus
Update 10-8-10
In Language Arts we just finished a word study on the roots corp and cred. We also finished our first essay. It's topic was "Who are you as a student?" The students read letters written to them by last year's 8th grade. Our next piece of writing will be a scary story--Halloween is just around the corner. In preparation for that, we have been looking at "Dead" words and creating a dictionary of more descriptive words that can be used in the students' writing.
Coming up during the months of November and December will be a research paper. The topic: the city of Chicago.
We are trying to tie it to the elections that will be held soon.
Please ask your student about their papers and what help that you might be able to offer to them.
