3.4.1 Students will describe or explain how artist fulfills a variety of purposes. Functional art – artistic objects used in everyday life (pottery- coil pot)

Day 1
Students will be introduced to and explore how clay can be molded into functional objects. How clay makes a 3-D work of art and is different from 2-D works of art.
Day 2
Students will further explore how clay can be molded into 3-D sculptures, such as animals and other objects.
Day 3
Students will identify shapes and form and compare and contrast the likeness and differences. Students will create a 3-D sculpture using paper or found objects.
Day 4
Students will identify geometric shapes and organic shapes and color as elements of art. Students will use the heart shape and create an original work of art.
Day 5
Students will review the elements of art and the principles of design. Students will create a snowman using shapes and identify the shapes as organic or geometric.
Grade 1
Day 1
Students will be introduced to and explore how clay can be molded into functional objects. How clay is molded into a 3-D work of art and different from 2-D works of art.
Day 2
Students will further explore how clay can be molded into 3-D sculptures, such as animals and other objects.
Day 3
Students will identify shapes and form and compare and contrast the likeness and differences. Students will create a paper sculpture using folded paper or found objects.
Day 4
Students will review the elements of art color, line, shape, color, texture, form and the principles of design balance, focal point, pattern, contrast. Students will create a snowman using shapes and color.
Day 5
Students will review the elements of art and the principles of design. Students will create a snowman using shapes and identify the shapes as organic or geometric.
Grade 2
Day 1

Students will identify geometric shapes and organic shapes and color as elements of art. Students will use the heart shape and create a valentine.
Day 5
Students will review the elements of art and the principles of design. Students will create a snowman using shapes.

Day 2
Students will go to I Mac Lab to study sculpture on Sanford Art and other art sites.
Day 3
Students will be able to create a coil pot using form and being able to explain the difference between 2-D and 3-D in are projects.
Day 4
Students will be able to identify and explain (Functional Art) as being a purpose for creating clay pottery.
Day 5
Students will be assessed over core content using CATS like multiple choices and an open response.
