Period Colonial American Art

 

2.4.1 Students will identify how visual art has been a part of cultures and time periods throughout history, Colonial America, Native Americans, West Africans and Traditional Appalachian.

 

3.4.1 Students will identify how art fulfills a variety of purposes. Students will identify different roles of art, artistic expression, and narrative art.

Day 1

Students will identify Colonial American art and the role of its importance in American art Students will create. Students will create a teepee as a form of housing that some Indians used.

Day 2

Students will identify shapes used in Colonial American art and create a sand painting of Native American designs.

Day 3

Students will identify the role of narrative art in Colonial and Native American culture. Students will create an artwork using Native American symbols to tell a story.

Day 4

Students will identify the role of quilts in Appalachian culture and students will design a square to go in a quilt.

Day 5

Students will identify the type of clothing wore and the materials used to make clothing in early Colonial and Native American cultures.

Students will go too I Mac – computer lab and draw examples of early American limner painters, Native American, and Appalachian art and other core content concepts.

 

Day 3

Students will identify the importance of Native American art history and how art of different culture have similarities and differences.

 

Day 4

Students will identify how Native Americans use symbols, colors and elements of art and design to create a unique and recognizable style of art.

 

Day 5

Students will be assessed over core content by using multiple choice and an open response question.

 

5th

Day 2

Students will identify Colonial American portraits and be able to tell two ways they are different from master paintings and portraits. Students will identify the importance of limners in Colonial American art

Students will identify the role of narrative art in Colonial American culture. Students will create an artwork using Colonial American symbols to tell a story.
