Ch. 6 Review--Perimeter and Area of Rectangles, Triangles, and Circles

Students are coming to the end of this chapter.  They will be taking the Ch. 6 Test Tuesday, May 13 or Wednesday, May 14.  In preparation for this test, the students will be doing review assignments and doing some review activities in class.  Click here to see the list of review activities.

Due May 8:  p. 298 #1-10 (skip 5, 6), 16-18

Due May 9:  No homework, but the Benchmark Test is Friday.

Due May 13:
**Tic Tac Toe Review (30 points total productivity)--some class time Tuesday will be used to work on the assignment.
**p. 334-335 #1, 4, 6, 10, 11, 12, 13

Math Benchmark Test

Students will be taking the math benchmark test in class on Friday, May 9.  This is a district assessment to check the effectiveness of the curriculum and instruction as well as to see the growth of the students over time.  The results will be recorded as a grade, but the point values will not be as large as other tests from pre-algebra.

6-4 Circumference and Area of Circles

Students will complete a hands-on activity to show them how pi (3.14) can be found and what it represents.  We will use that value to find both area and circumference of circles over the course of the week.  Students will need to know how to express area/circumference as a number to the nearest hundredth and as an expression of pi.

Due April 29:  Read p. 294-295.  Define these words:  circle, diameter, radius, circumference.

Due April 30:  p. 296 #1-2, 7-10, 17-19 (circumference only)

Due May 1:  wkst. 124 #1-9 (some time in class given to complete this)

Due May 2:  wkst. 124 #10-18, p. 297 #20-22, 34-37

Due May 5:  p. 296 #3-4, 11-14, 17-19 (area only)
wkst. 125 #1-9 completed in class 5/5

Due May 6:  p. 297 #29-32

6-2 Perimeter and Area of Triangles

Area of Triangles  Play the 20 Questions game about half way down on this website.  Be sure to record how long it takes you to complete this.

Students will be working on perimeter and area of triangles using the following formulas:

p = s + s + s          To find the perimeter, add all sides.
a = 1/2 (b * h)       To find the area, take half of the product of the base and height.

6-2 Quiz will be Mon., April 28.

Test Card

Students were given a 3x5 index card on which they can write some notes or general guidelines to refer to when working on homework, a quiz, or a test.  This is a list of acceptable notes or guidelines to use on the test card.

Order of Operations:  PEMDAS
Parentheses
Exponents
Multiplication
Division
Addition
Subtraction
**When you get it down to multiplying and dividing, go from left to right in the order the problem has it listed.
**When you get it down to adding and subtracting, go from left to right in the order the problem has it listed.

Add/Subtract Integers (positive and negative numbers):
**If signs are the same, think SUM and add the numbers.  Keep the sign of the numbers.
**If signs are different, think DIFFERENCE and subtract the numbers (Big - Small).  Keep the sign of the bigger number.

Multiply/Divide Integers (positive and negative numbers):
**Count the amount of opposite (negative signs).
##If the amount is even (0, 2, 4, 6, 8), the answer will be positive.
##If the amount is odd (1, 3, 5, 7, 9), the answer will be negative.
