What's In a Grade?

Math grades are based on three main categories:

Tests & Quizzes: 50% of the final grade

Quizzes are given midway through a chapter or unit.  Tests are given at the end of each chapter, usually every 2-3 weeks.

Homework: 30% of the final grade

Homework is usually assigned every day and is graded on a 10 point scale.  Students recieve 10 points if the homework is complete and on time; 8 points if the homework is mostly done but not entirely, or if homework is late; 5 points if the homework is only half complete.

Warm Ups & Participation: 20% of the final grade

Each day, students are expected to complete two to three "warm up" math questions.  These questions are used to help students better understand a math topic or problem.  I have found that students who complete these problems learn the material better and therefore succeed in their homework, quizzes, and tests.  Also, in my class students are often times asked to work in groups or with partners.  Their effectiveness working during those times will affect their participation grade.

Late Work Policy

I post grades weekly (usually on Mondays).  Students have until Friday to turn in any missing work they may have from the previous week.  If a student does not turn in the missing work by that Friday, the grade will stay a zero and they no longer have the chance to turn in that missing work.
