Math
Last updated March 16th, 2011 at 3:57 a.m.Below is a link to a multiplication table.
The next unit we will be covering in math will be on the multiplication and division of decimals. We are starting this unit by first exploring where your childs' understanding of multiplication and division is and we will try to re-teach any areas that you child may struggle with in regard to the basic concepts before we introduce the new material.
We will be teaching a very conceptual(concrete) means of completing multiplication and division and we would appreciate if you do not try to teach your child a systematic, procedural way of multiplying and dividing. It is important that your child firmly understands the processes and reasonings for how multiplication and division work before we introduce any shortcuts or easier ways.
Multiplication and division of decimals is another process where we will be teaching a very conceptual means of solving problems that allow your child to truely understand what they are doing not just following steps. We will focus on estimation as a means of determining where to place the decimal as opposed to counting the spaces after the decimal.
We firmly believe this is the best way for your child to start exploring these concepts and if you have any questions/concerns please fell free to contact me or stop by the school to review any of the material.
Thanks
